A Golden Experience

Today 8R12 explored the old gold mines in Karangahake gorge and the newer mines in Waihi.

"It was interesting how much old mining material was still lying around. " - Sebastian

"How on Earth did they make those tunnels back in the old days?" - Max

"I wonder just how many people died when these mines were working? Try looked so dangerous." - Jonathan

"When was the last time this mine was used?" - Fraser

"I wish we could've explored the really long tunnels. Just how long are they?" - Hamish

"In what area did they find the most gold?" - Liam

"Just how did they actually mine the old mines?!" - Dom

"I can't believe that when Martha Mine is closed it will fill with lots of water over seven years!" - Holly

To think that olden-day miners had to worry about rats eating their good!" - Kayla

Progress Reports

What do you think your grades should be?

8R12 students self-assessed themselves today to decide what grades they think they deserve. They decided on a grade ranging from NOT ACCEPTABLE, through to ACCEPTABLE, then GOOD, then EXCELLENT.

They had to write a paragraph justifying their choices by explaining why they deserve the grade and using evidence and examples where possible.

Here are some examples (anonymous):

Classwork - Good, because I always strive for excellence and try my hardest in everything. Most of the time I have neat handwriting and present my work as neatly as I can.

Attitude - Excellent, because I am always at class on time and willing to give 100% on whatever I am learning and prepared to learn new things. I am always willing to help others and help with classroom activities.

Equipment - Good, because I have been reminded once about my equipment. I also normally have all my books (organiser, school books) and my pencil case.

Homework - Excellent, because there has not been one time that I have missed homework except when I was sick but I caught up.

If you have not yet handed in your paragraphs to Mr H., please do so by Monday morning before camp. You could write them in Google Drive and share them with Mr H.
